Colby's 2000 season in men's basketball teemed with excitement and accomplishment. 2001 should provide more of the same.
With seven letter winners returning, Colby has some experience and depth. The
graduation of a trio of team leaders will place strong pressure on the
returning contingent to match or better last year's 19-7 effort. With a 6-0 in state record, including two wins over
Bates and Bowdoin, the Mules
progressed to the ECAC tournament
finals, before losing a one
point heartbreaker in the finals
in overtime.
All State and NESCAC second team
selection Sam Clark leads the
returners and will serve as
tri-captain with guard David
Forsyth and junior forward
Jake Civiello. Sam Clark is on pace
to become Colby's 30th thousand
point scorer, with 575 heading
into his senior season. Forsyth
started at a guard spot during
parts of each of the past two seasons
and performed well. David is a
strong defender and makes open shots
Civiello started as a junior and
became a tower of strength with
his physical style of play.
The senior class is large, at 6,
with smooth shooting guard Zeb
Davis, Trent Cunningham, 6-5 is an inside out player who may be ready to blossom in his senior year along with Kirk Allen at 6-3 and guard Steve Tweedie all on board.
Junior Joe Gutierrez should be the floor
leader at guard, while Trevor
Macdonald will back up. In the sophomore class post force Dimitri Michaud will
Make his presence felt, while 6-7
Kevin Crosman may be the sleeper of
The 2001 season. Jon Moro should
Challenge at guard and Sean Flood
Will add dimension.
A highlight for the season will come
Early as the team will embark on
a two week tour of Australia in
August, playing against several
of Australia's better amateur teams.
Colby's schedule remains very
strong and the Mules will travel
to four tournaments in three states, while hosting the Colby
Invitational which includes Hamilton
and playing a round robin NESCAC
schedule. If the inside can stand
up, the perimeters continue to
excel and the defense remain
consistent the opportunity for
