Patricia O'Brien, Head CoachEntering her seventh year at Colby, Tricia O'Brien is currently president of the New England Women's Basketball Coaches Association. She also represents the NESCAC and serves on the New England NCAA regional selection committee. In just her second season at Colby, O'Brien turned a struggling program (7-17) into a number one seed and host of the ECAC tournament finishing with a strong 17-7 record. O'Brien was recognized by the Maine State Coaches Association, the New England Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and the National Women's Basketball Coaches Association (District I) as the 1997 Coach of the Year. O'Brien, who earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Salem State College, was an assistant coach at her alma mater and head coach at Rivier College in Nashua, N.H., before joining the Colby faculty. As a player at Salem State, O'Brien was named the unsung hero of the 1985-86 team that captured the Division III National Championship. During her four-year career she compiled 1,280 points, was a two-time team MVP, and was twice named to the All-MASCAC team. She was also a first-team ECAC selection, earned All-Star honors from the New England Women's Basketball Association, and was named a Kodak All-American.
