BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team continued the
best-ever start in the program's history on Tuesday night, taking a tough 62-48
decision over arch-rival Colby. The Polar Bears are ranked fifth in the nation in the latest national poll and are 10-0 on the year, while Colby drops to 5-9 with the loss. The Polar Bears took a 32-21 lead into the half after a first 20 minutes that featured 16 turnovers by Colby. Jumping out to a 10-3 lead, the Polar Bears stretched the lead to 10 on a three-pointer by Lindsay Bramwell just five minutes in. Colby answered quickly, cutting the lead to five on a three-pointer by Cara Dionese at the nine minute mark. But Bowdoin proceeded to take control from there, as a Lora Trenkle hoop and free throw gave Bowdoin a 12 point lead shortly before the half.
The Bowdoin lead hovered in double digits to start the second half, but Colby closed the lead to seven on a jumper by Andrea DeAngelo at with 13 minutes remaining. The White Mules could get no closer than seven the rest of the way, as Bowdoin closed on an 11-5 run over the final six minutes to take the victory.
The Polar Bears had three players in double-digits, led by Jessie Mayol's 16 points. Lora Trenkle and Kristi Royer pitched in 10 apiece for Bowdoin. The lone White Mule in double figures was Bianca Belcher, who finished with 11.
