January 18, 2002
Waterville, Maine
Waterville, Maine The Colby College White Mules (6-9) were too much for the Connecticut College Camels (1-9) at Wadsworth Gymnasium with an 80-36 victory. Colby¹s play in the paint and defense lead them to their win tonight.
Wendy Bonner ¹05 (Lexington, Mass.) sparked the Mules in the first half with a total of 7 rebounds and 11 points. Five of her seven rebounds came on the offensive end, most of which ended in easy hoops. With 7:10 left on the clock in the first half, Bonner hit two free throws to extend Colby¹s lead to 25-15. However, Connecticut was able to cut the lead to 36-27 thanks to Erin Shields ¹04 (Savannah, Ga.) and her 12 first half points. Katy Lawson ¹02 (Mount Desert Is., Maine) chipped in with 9 points in the first half as well for the Mules.
The second half started with Bianca Belcher ¹03 (Lewiston, Maine) hitting a couple of shots in a row to increase Colby¹s lead to 40-28. The Mules worked the ball into the paint and created some easy baskets with their height advantage. Colby also turned up the pressure in the defensive end, as they gave up only 9 points in the second half. At the 12:54 mark, Bonner made another shot to put Colby up 50-32. She ended the game with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals.
