GAME RECAP
Colby vs Salve Regina
November 16, 2001
Waterville, ME
In a game that came down to the wire Colby College Women's
Basketball Team came up just short of a spectacular finish to send the
Salve Regina Seahawks into overtime. In a game that was closely contested
from the start, as the 28-24 halftime score would indicate, it came down to
the last few minutes as no team was able to pull away. With 2:40 to go
Salve Regina was clinging to a 55-54 lead and Christine O'Donnell (Salem,
Mass.) drove the lane and was fouled. She hit both free throws and have
Colby a one point lead. Salve would answer on the next possession as Sarah
Freeman (Avon, NY) would also make two free throws. On the next Salve
possession Colby was unable to come down with an important defensive
rebound and Salve would make two more free throws to push the lead to four.
Things did not look good for Colby, but Cara Dionisi (Sudbury, Mass.)
bombed a three pointer from way beyond the arc to ignite Wadsworth
Gymnasium and bring the Mules within one point. Salve was fouled on their
next possession and made both free throws to build the lead back up to
three. A last second shot as time expired missed and Colby came up short.
Leading the way for Colby was captains O'Donnell with 10 points and Katy
Lawson (Mount Desert Is., Maine) who had 14 points and ten rebounds.
Leading the way for Salve was Freeman with 12 points and 14 rebounds and
Erin Brown (Casco, Maine) with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Colby plays
Husson tomorrow at 1 PM in the Consolation Game of the Colby Women's
Basketball Tourney and Salve Regina will face Babson in the Championship
Game.
