Stew Stokes, Head Coach

The 2000-2001 season marks Head Coach Stew Stokes' first year at the helm of the Colby Crew. Prior to his arrival at Colby, Stew spent three years as the assistant Men's coach at Trinity College, where he earned his Master's Degree in History with a thesis titled "A Social and Technical History of Rowing in England and the United States." While at Trinity his crews lost only one regular season race and every crew he coached won a medal at the New England Rowing Championships, including two gold medals. All of his crews also went on to earn spots in the Grand Finals of their respective events at the Champion International Collegiate Regatta, including winning silver and bronze medals. Before Trinity, Stew spent three years as the Head Men's Coach at the University of Massachusetts, leading them to first ever appearances in the San Diego Crew Classic and Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) regattas. A 1990 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Stew is a four-time winner of the Head of the Charles Regatta, a four-time U.S. National Champion, and was a member of the Men's Lightweight Eight on the 1993 United States Rowing Team. Stew and his wife, Bess, live in Albion, ME.

Pat Tynan, Assistant Coach

Pat is in his first season as the assistant coach at Colby, where he will be responsible for coaching the Freshmen Men's and Women's crews. Before his arrival, Pat was the assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts for two years, where his crews medaled in the New England and Atlantic-10 Rowing Championships. During his two years at UMass, Pat also served as an assistant coach at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA. Pat's rowing career began in 1990 at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, MA and continued at the University of Massachusetts where he rowed in the Varsity Lightweight Eight for four years earning numerous medals at the New England Rowing Championships and the Champion International Collegiate Regattas. After graduating in 1998 with a degree in Exercise Science, Pat spent the summer with the United States Lightweight Development Team at the Riverside Boat Club in Boston, winning three medals at the American Rowing Championships. Pat's extensive rowing experience, as well as his background in Exercise Science, make him a valuable addition to the Colby Crew.
