(2000-2001 season) The brilliant red and gold hues that mark the Maine autumn bespeak Colby's student-athletes' enthusiasm for the cross country running season. Placing among the top three teams at the New England Small College Athletic Conference championships in nine of the past 16 years, with victories in 1981, 1987 and 1990 and a first-place tie in 1993, speaks to the consistently high level at which the Colby harriers race. High performance in the classroom has also long been a mark of Colby's distance runners, whose success as graduates speaks of their disciplined lives. The camaraderies that take on a special meaning with smaller athletic teams find Colby harriers in close contact on Mayflower Hill and remaining in touch long after graduation.
