Coming off the best season in White Mule history, which culminated in an ECAC semi-final appearance, the majority of the Colby field hockey team will be returning for the 2000 season. The White Mules ended the 1999 regular season with a record of 8-6 that earned the team a spot in the first round ECAC's against Wellesley College. With a late goal by Melanie Estrella '00, Colby won 3-2. This win sent the team to Wesleyan for a first ever semi-final game. Despite an exciting game, the White Mules fell 2-1. Having advanced farther in the ECAC's than any other Colby field hockey team, the team is fired up and ready to go for the 2000 season.

Under the leadership of captains Jane Stevens '01, Becky Downing '01 and Marcia Ingraham '02, the 2000 team returns a large core of starters and many other experienced players waiting to fill the remaining spots. Returning in goal is four-year starter and senior captain, Jane Stevens. Stevens' consistency and ability to make crucial saves will be an important factor in ensuring the success of the team. Junior goalkeeper, Carrie Torrisi, will also prove to be instrumental in both regulation and overtime play. The defense remains largely intact, with captain and two-time Regional All-American Marcia Ingraham '02 leading the backfield. Ingraham leads the team in defensive saves and is the team's second leading scorer. While she will be looked upon to be the keystone of the defense, she will also be an important figure in transition and on penalty corner play. Joining Ingraham in the backfield are returning starters Brook Brisson '02 and Lauren Rodier '02, both of whom have excellent marking skills. Returning players Mary Zito '02, Missy Dunn '02, Becky Downing '01, and Jenn Brenneman '03 will be called upon to round out the defense and fill the spot left by Kate Gardiner '00. With the loss of key players in the midfield, Emi Domoto-Reilly '01 and Kara Hubbard '02 will be counted on to step up and lead the midfield with their transition play. Also joining them in midfield are sophomores Kira Vassar and Meredith Millen. Leading the offense are returning starters Becca Bruce '02 and Sarah Browne '02. Bruce, the third leading scorer in 1999 will be looked upon to lead the White Mules in scoring. Browne's playmaking skills will give Colby the advantage on offense. Lyndsay Peters '03, who was voted Rookie of the Year in 1999 will give needed assistance to Bruce and Browne. Rounding out the offense are Lizzy Brandt '02 and Caroline Riss '03. A large group of talented incoming freshmen should also vie for the many positions left from graduation. With a combination of depth and experience, the White Mules can be counted on for a successful and exciting upcoming season.
