Junior Becca Bruce (Exeter, NH) led the White Mules field hockey team with three goals as Colby (1-1 regular season, 0-1 conference) won their home opener against Plymouth State College 3-1. The White Mules took the offensive early, dominating the Panther's half of the field. Colby would keep the pressure on the visiting Panthers throughout the entire game.

The White Mules' persistence paid off as Colby scored first midway through the first half. Becca Bruce's first goals came unassisted at 17:37 into the game. Picking up assists on the next two of Bruce's goals were sophomore Lyndsay Peters (Freeport, Me) at 23:18, and junior Lizzy Brandt (Concord, NH) at 43:09. The sole goal for the Panthers was recorded by Sacha Jackson (Jr., Sangerville, Me), who was assisted by Kerri Tarpy (Sr., Biddeford, Me), at 63:48.

Colby's defense was key as the tandem of senior Jane Stevens (Chevy Chase, Md) and junior Carrie Torrisi (Andover, Ma) stopped 10 of Plymouth State's 11 shots on goal. Plymouth State goalkeepers Lindsey Breda (So., Londonderry, NH) and Ellen Ward (Fr., Thorndike, Me) held off Colby the best they could stopping 16 of 19 shots on goal.

The White Mules will now try to carry the momentum built up today into their next contest. Colby returns to NESCAC action at 11:00am on Saturday September 16 when they travel to Middletown, Connecticut to face Wesleyan College.
