MEDFORD, MA Junior midfielder Lindsay Lionetti (Stamford, CT) scored with 3:57 left in the second overtime to lift the host Tufts University Jumbos to a big 2-1 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. Lionetti was assisted on the game-winning goal by sophomore Laura Hacker (Hollis, NH). The win was the second straight for the Jumbos and their first in league play this fall. Colby (2-3) dropped to 0-3 in the NESCAC this season. The Jumbos got the important first goal when senior co-captain Amy Polverini (Longmeadow, MA) converted a pass from fellow captain Collette Gaudet (Redding, CT) with 26:44 to play in the first half following a penalty corner. Colby evened the match at 1-1 just 90 seconds into the second frame on a goal from close range by junior Becca Bruce (Exeter, NH), assisted by junior Sarah Browne (Vassalboro, ME). The teams waged a scoreless battle through the rest of regulation, the first overtime and most of the second before Lionetti ended. The game was full of excitment, with the teams combining for 26 penalty corner opportunities. Senior Dena Sloan (Millburn, NJ) earned the win in the Tufts goal with nine saves. Colby senior Jane Stevens (Chevy Chase, MD) was the hard-luck loser with eight stops.
