Field Hockey Loses to Williams, 4-2

The Colby College field hockey team (4-6, 1-5) lost to Williams College (7-0, 5-0) at home on Sunday, 4-2.

Colby scored first at the 29:19 mark of the first half. Sari Gilbert (04, Marblehead, Ma) retrieved a pass from junior Marcia Ingraham (Georgetown, Ma) to put the Mules up, 1-0. Williams struck right back at the 21:50 mark with a Stefanie Noering pass to Allison Stepp, and tying the score 1-1. Colby was able to score the last goal of the half at the 4:44 mark. Sophomore Jenn Brenneman (Denver, Co) set up Kara Hubbard's (02, Windham, NH) goal with a short cross pass. At the end of the first half Colby led Williams, 2-1.

Williams soon showed why they are the only undefeated team in the NESCAC by scoring three unanswered goals in the second half. At 22:47 in the half the Ephs' Molly Jennings scored a solo goal to tie the game at 2-2. The score remained tied until Jennings set up a pass to Heather Kallus for Williams' third goal at 12:44.

Colby attempted to come back but missed opportunities to again tie the score. Then, with 4:18 remaining in the game, the Ephs' Noering took a Sarah Commito pass past Colby goalie Jane Stevens (01, Chevy Chase, Md) to seal the victory for Williams.

Stevens recorded 11 saves for the White Mules. Williams' goalkeeper Monelle Quevillon recorded seven saves.

The Colby Mules return to action on Wednesday, October 11, for a home match versus the University of Southern Maine at 4:00pm.
