2005 Season Recap
After losing key seniors from a NESCAC semifinal team of 2004, the Mules finished 5-8 this season while losing a number of tight games.
Colby lost four of its games by one goal with a lineup made up of mostly young players. First-year forward Mary Clare Snediker earned conference second team honors along with sophomore goaltender Jamie Enos. Snediker led the Mules in scoring with nine goals, while Enos averaged more than 10 saves per game and kept Colby in most games.
2005 Season Preview
Colby will look forward to their first season playing on the new Bill Alfond Field, a synthetic turf field. This will be a rebuilding year, the team having lost six starting seniors to graduation in 2005. The Mules will be led by tri-captains Emily Tull '06, Nicole Stadelman '06, and Kyla Wagman '07.
The speedy forward line will be made up of Jen Reilly '08, Christine Maloney '07, and Jessica Egan '08. Reilly and Maloney were both very successful in the circle last year, scoring or assisting on 11 of the 31 goals.
The Mules will be solid in the midfield with MaryClaire McGovern '08 and Stadelman, who has tremendous turf skills and does an excellent job distributing the ball.
The only returning starter on defense will be center back Kyla Wagman, the backbone of the defense, but she is capable of coming up to become an offensive threat. Stepping into the sweeper position will be Emily Wilson '08.
The Mules are fortunate to have two exceptional goaltenders in Molly Rice '07 (.864 save percentage) and Jamie Enos 08 (.885 save percentage). Enos was honored as Co-NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2004.
Program Overview
Colby competes in the 11-member New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), comprised of select NCAA Division III colleges that emphasize academic and athletic excellence. The Mules also participate in the CBB Championship, an annual in-state series with NESCAC rivals Bates and Bowdoin. Colby won the CBB title in 2004 with a home victory over Bowdoin and a road win at Bates.
Many Colby field hockey players also play varsity basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, softball, or another intercollegiate sport. Players also are involved in campus activities such as student government, music, drama, and community service.
Colby's field hockey program began play in 1968 and only seven head coaches have led the team since. The Mules have had two national All-Americans and 13 regional All-Americans.
