Colby Football Team 3-0 After Defeating Wesleyan, 29-7 Waterville, Maine Colby College (3-0) extended its winning streak to three games in football after defeating Wesleyan University (2-1) at home, 29-7. This is the team's best start since 1972 when the White Mules compiled a record of 7-1. The Colby offense was tenacious, recording a combined 444 yards. Wesleyan recorded 222 yards of total offense. Colby scored the first points of the game on their third possession in a drive that began with a Jared Beers (01, Kittery, Me) forced fumble. The Mules began on their 34-yard line. On first down, Pat Conley (03, Bath, Me) threw to wide out Danny Noyes (02, Silver Lake, NH) for a gain of nine yards. On the next play Conley threw a lateral pass to Noyes, who then threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Lee Carlson (Braintree, Ma). The Keith Jonassen (02, Albion, Me) kick for the point after was good, and the Mules were up 7-0. Wesleyan's last drive of the quarter started and ended within their own five-yard line. On fourth down the Cardinals punted the ball to their 34-yard line. It was at this point that Colby began its next scoring drive. The combination of Conley and Noyes hooked up for a nine-yard gain. A Wesleyan interference call made it a first down for the Mules. A ten-yard holding penalty against Wesleyan pushed the Mules further towards the Cardinal endzone. Noyes caught an 11-yard pass that put Colby on Wesleyan's three-yard line. On the next play from scrimmage, Don Williams (03,Owls Head, Me) caught a Conley pass for a three-yard touchdown effort. The following kick by Jonassen was good and Colby finished the half with a 14-0 lead. The White Mules' next score came at 9:10 in the third quarter. A 24-yard reception by Andrew Tripp (01, Saco, Me) set up Colby's offense on Wesleyan's 42-yard line. Jason Meadows (01, Bloomfield, Ct) then caught a 22-yard pass on the next play. Williams then took a Conley pass to the five-yard line. Colby was able to rush to the one-yard line. Conley kept the ball, on a quarterback-sneak, and scored the touchdown. A snap too high for holder Danny Noyes during the point after attempt forced him to hold on to the ball and run for a two-point conversion play. Colby's lead was now 22-0. Colby's last drive of the third quarter, which started at 6:15, carried over into the fourth quarter. Penalties on both sides of the ball extended the time of possession for Colby. Rashard Randolph (02,New York, NY) rushed for a combined 12 yards in four plays, and set up a Conley touch down pass to Ian McPherson (03, Waltham, Ma) at 11:57. The point after kick was good and the White Mules' lead was extended 29-0. On their second to last drive of the quarter, Wesleyan was able to get to the endzone. Cardinal quarterback Kevin Cornish led Wesleyan down the field to Colby's two-yard line. Wesleyan's Young Douglas carried the ball into the endzone for the Cardinals only touchdown. The Point after kick by Vin Balsamo was good as Wesleyan trailed the Mules by the final score of 29-7. Colby will travel to Amherst, Massachusetts for next week's game versus Amherst College. Wesleyan will come back to Maine next week to play Bates.
