ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACHES

 

Tom Dexter Tom Dexter
Defensive Coordinator, Defensive Secondary, Strength Coach

Tom Dexter is in his 16th season on Colby's football coaching staff. A 1987 graduate of SUNY-Cortland, Dexter played quarterback and defensive back while in college. In 1988 he earned his master's degree from Cortland while serving as a defensive line coach there. Dexter then went to Cornell University for one year, where he was the defensive secondary coach and defensive coordinator of the freshman football team. Dexter also serves as head baseball coach and director of the fitness center at Colby.

 

Bill Lund
Linebackers, Special Teams Coordinator

Bill Lund enters his fifth season as linebacker and special teams coach at Colby. Lund served as linebacker coach, recruiting coordinator, as well as special teams coordinator for three seasons at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. prior to joining the staff at Colby.

A Wisconsin native and graduate of Lawrence University, Lund was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at Lawrence playing both sides of the ball at linebacker and center. He received the Landis Award for the Most Dedicated Senior Athlete as well as All Conference recognition at center in 1995, helping his team lead Division III in rushing.

Coach Lund continued his career playing semi-pro football with the Granite State Warriors of the Eastern Football League from 1996-98. He played linebacker and served as defensive coordinator for the team during their national semifinal season in 1996.

Rob Quinn
Defensive Backs

Rob Quinn is in third season as an assistant coach with the Colby football team and his fourth as head coach of the men's lacrosse team. He led the Mules'lacrosse team to the NESCAC title game and was honored as conference coach of the year during his first year at Colby. Quinn is a 1989 graduate of Westfield State College, where he was an All-American lacrosse player and was recently inducted into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame.

 

Bill Lawrence
Defensive Line

Bill Lawrence is in his second year working with Colby's defensive line. He spent two years assisting the defensive line coach at the University of Maine-Orono. Lawrence, a 1999 graduate of Plymouth State College, served as a graduate assistant and defensive line coach at Brockport State during the 1999 and 2000 football seasons. He was a student assistant coach at his alma mater in 1998. During Lawrence's playing days at Plymouth State, the Panthers had a 31-10 record and made two NCAA tournament appearances.

 

Jonathan Michaeles
Recruiting Coordinator, Quarterbacks, Receivers, Kickers

Jonathan Michaeles joins the Colby coaching staff after five years as offensive coordinator and associate head coach at St. Anselm College. A Sturbridge, Mass., native, Michaeles is a 1992 graduate of Bates College, where he was a four-year football player. He then was an assistant high school football coach in Sturbridge, Mass., for a year before moving on to Allegheny College, where he coached wide receivers for three years on a team that had a 29-1 regular season record during that time. Michaeles later had stints as a wide receiver/tight end coach at Penn and wide receiver coach and recruiting coordinator at Fordham.

 

Brandon Irwin
Running backs

Brandon Irwin joins the Colby football staff after a stellar playing career with the Mules. A native of Sherburne, N.Y., Irwin was Colby's football captain in 2003, and earned NESCAC second-team honors for the second straight year. He ranked fifth on the 2003 team with 44 tackles, including two for losses. Irwin also had one interception, one forced fumble, five pass break-ups, and averaged 21.6 yards on kickoff returns. During his four years of playing at Colby, he helped the Mules win three CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) championships.

 

Chap Nelson Chap Nelson
Equipment Manager

One of the more familiar faces on campus is Chap Nelson ('82), who has served as Colby's equipment manager since 1985. In that role, the Clinton, ME, native and Lawrence High School graduate oversees the procurement and maintenance of equipment and uniforms for all of the school's varsity teams, as well as the myriad of club and intramural sports offered by the College.

Nelson graduated from Colby with a degree in administrative sciences, then attended The Ohio State University where he earned a master's degree in athletic administration in 1984. Nelson returned to Colby in 1985 as the equipment manager. He is assisted in the equipment room by Mary Lou Caron, now in her seventh year with the athletic department.

 

Mark Godomsky Mark Godomsky (sabbatical)
Offensive Backfield

Mark Godomsky is a 10 year member of the Colby football staff, and also serves as the Mules' head alpine ski coach. A graduate of Mt. Blue High School in nearby Farmington, Maine, Godomsky was a four-year football player and three-year member of the ski team at Bates College, where he graduated in 1991. Godomsky coached alpine skiing at Colby from 1991 to 1993 and then returned to Mayflower Hill in 1994. He also has served as assistant athletic director and assistant alpine program director at Carrabasset Valley Academy in Kingfield, Maine.
