WATERVILLE, Maine -- Chandler Perine (Middlebury, Vt./Deerfield Academy) had a 66-yard interception return for a touchdown to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 10-7 win over Colby on Saturday afternoon. The victory gives Bowdoin its second consecutive Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) Championship, and its first five-win season since 1987. The Polar Bears finish the year with a record of 5-3, while Colby ends up at 2-6.

Bowdoin jumped on the board first when Colby quarterback Nate Bradley's (Norridgewock, Me./Skowhegan) pass sailed through the hands of receiver Miguel Gonzalez (Oxford, Me./Oxford Hills) and into the waiting arms of Perine. The senior defensive back then returned the pick 66 yards up the right sideline for the Polar Bears' only touchdown of the day.

Bowdoin would add to its lead with 11:52 left in the second quarter, as Alex Tatum (Acton, Mass./Belmont Hill) capped off a 12-play, 73-yard drive with a 30-yard field goal to give the Polar Bears a 10-0 advantage. The drive was highlighted by an 11-yard run by fullback Tim Lawson (South Portland, Me./South Portland) on third-down-and-one, and a 21-yard pass play from quarterback Hayes MacArthur (Chicago, Ill./Deerfield Academy) to wideout Steve Prinn (Westwood, Mass./Westwood). The field goal was Tatum's fifth of the season.

With the offense struggling to score points, the defense gave Colby a lift when middle linebacker James Scribner (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) picked off a MacArthur pass with 3:34 left in the third quarter. The White Mules then embarked on an eight-play, 64-yard drive that culminated in a two-yard touchdown run by Thomas Keblin (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional), his ninth of the season. The drive, which featured a 13-yard run by Bradley and a 28-yarder by Keblin, pulled the Mules to within striking distance at 10-7.

Colby would take the ball inside the Bowdoin 40-yard line on each of its next three possessions, but key defensive stops by the Polar Bears preserved the victory. On one drive, the White Mules got as far as the Bowdoin 30-yard line, but Tom Connelly (Wilwaukee, Wisc./University), who earlier in the game had recorded his first interception of the season, came on a cornerback blitz to sack Bradley for a nine-yard loss, forcing the Mules to punt. Colby's final trip into Bowdoin territory ended with Bradley's fourth interception of the day, as the Polar Bears sealed the 10-7 victory.
