Football Drops Homecoming to Amherst
WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Amherst football team played the role of the spoiler as they came into Seaverns Field for Colbyıs Homecoming game and handed the Mules a 24 - 17 defeat.
Colby held a 7 - 3 halftime lead, but surrendered three, third-quarter touchdown's to the Lord Jeffs.
Amherst drove 61 yards for their first touchdown with 6:52 left in the third. Colby promptly fumbled the Amherst kickoff at their own 37 yard-line. Two plays and less than 15 seconds later the scoreboard read Amherst 17, Colby 7. Colby answered with a 40-yard field goal from sophomore kicker Keith Jonassen (Albion, ME), but any momentum they may have built was erased by a 55 yard kickoff return by Amherst's David Frankel. Amherst would complete that drive with a short touchdown pass from Peter Honig to Matt Flavin. Colby would answer again with a 55 yard touchdown drive, but could not reach midfield on any of their last four drives.
Colby football travels to Hamilton next Saturday, October 23. Their record now stands at 1 - 3.
