Colby Overpowers Bowdoin
Keblin Scores Three Touchdowns in Mules' Romp
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Colby College football team proved too much for Bowdoin to handle as they outplayed the Polar Bears in every facet on the game for a 20 - 0 victory Saturday afternoon.
Senior captain Thomas Keblin (Bolton, Mass.) led the Mules attack with 96 yards rushing on 28 attempts and three touchdowns. Senior quarterback, Matt Smith (Middlebury, Vermont) complimented Keblin's rushing efforts with 230 yards passing as he connected on 22 of 31 attempts. Sophomore Dan Noyes (Sliver Lake, N.H.) had another solid game at wide receiver with nine receptions for 117 yards.
The Mules' defense also stepped up their play with three interceptions, tying a Colby record for team interceptions in a season with 18. Colby got picks from Jared Beers (Kittery, Maine), Mark D'Ambrosio (Winthrop, Mass.) and Jason Brooks (Lisbon Falls, Maine).
Keblin's first touchdown capped off Colby's first possession with 7:47 left in the first quarter. Keblin carried the ball eight times for 36 yards on the drive, the final run a one-yard plunge to give Colby the early 7-0 lead.
Two of the next three Colby possessions ended in Smith throwing interceptions in the endzone, but Bowdoin could not take full advantage of the opportunities. The closest the Polar Bears came to scoring was a 40-yard field goal attempt from Alex Tatum (Acton, Mass.) that fell well short.
Keblin would score on the Mules' second possession of the second half again on a one-yard plunge, giving Colby the 14-0 edge. The drive started with Brooks' interception at the Bowdoin 14-yard line.
Bowdoin went three-and-out on their next possession and the Mules marched 75 yards for their third score of the game. Junior Andy Tripp (Saco, Maine) pulled the PAT wide left for the 20-0 final score.
