Middlebury, Vermont

Colby College competed in the 2000 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Golf Championship, which was hosted by Middlebury College on Saturday and Sunday. The White Mules placed seventh out of ten teams with a combined score of 679. For scoring purposes, the top four scores from each day of competition are added for the composite score. Williams College won the team title with a score of 645.

The Colby Mules were led by senior Scott Bixby (La Jolla, Ca), who shot a 166 for 36 holes. Bixby tied with four other players for fourteenth place in the individual all-around. David Greiner of Middlebury College won the individual title with a score of 158.

Other members of the Colby team were Matt Simard (02, Auburn, Me) who finished in 22nd place with a 168, Justin Ucko (02, Short Hills, NJ) who finished 27th with a 171, Greg Dupuy (04, Allendale, NJ) who shot a 179 and tied for 38th place, and senior Andre Pichner (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) who finished with a 182 for 43rd place.

The Colby golf team returns to action on Wednesday, October 4, when they travel to Belgrade Lakes for the University of Maine - Farmington Invitational. Play begins at 12:00pm.

In addition to yesterday's men's golf results, there was a women's tournament held in conjunction with the men at Middlebury College. Colby's Beth Monahan (01, Scituate, Ma) placed second overall with a two round score of 179. Teammate Josie Chapman (01, Bristol, RI) tied for eighth place with a score of 204. Katie Nicoll of Williams won the individual title with a two day total of 170.
