BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Colby College finished in second place, four strokes off the lead, at the Bowdoin Invitational in Brunswick. Leading the way for Colby with a 36-hole total of 154 was first-year Ben Powell (Damriscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy).
Powell, who shot rounds of 75 and 79, took Tufts' Jeff Kaye to a playoff hole to determine medalist honors. Kaye managed to hold off Powell, however, winning the playoff on the first hole.
Scott Bixby (La Jolla, Cali./La Jolla) also performed well for the White Mules, finishing third individually with a two-round total of 160. Colby's team score of 655 placed them in a tie for second place with UMF, trailing only Tufts, which finished with a team score of 651.
The golf team will next compete in the Maine State Tournament Friday morning in Portland.
