Jim Tortorella, Head CoachJim Tortorella, a former standout goalie at the University of Maine, has coached the Mules to an impressive 157-76-20 record over the past 10 years. His 157 wins make him the all-time leader in career wins among men's hockey coaches at Colby. Tortorella coached the best under-20-year-olds in the United States when he was named the assistant coach for the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 USA World Junior teams. He currently serves as a consultant of player development for the USA Hockey affiliates of New England. In 2001 he was elected president of the prestigious American Hockey Coaches Association. Tortorella began his coaching career at Brunswick High School in Maine, where he coached from 1984-87. He also coached at Cony High School in Augusta, Maine, from 1988-93, during which time he was twice named State of Maine Coach of the Year. Prior to joining the coaching staff at Colby Tortorella served as an assistant coach for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. He holds the highest level of coaching education achievement within USA Hockey, the master certificate. Tortorella was a finalist for the 1995-96 National Division III and ECAC East Coach of the Year honors. phone 207-859-4913 Matt Dennehy is in his first season as assistant coach with the Colby men's hockey team. Dennehy was an assistant coach for Salem State for the past two years. He is a 2002 graduate of Saint Anselm College and was a two-time Division II All-American hockey player. Dennehy played varsity hockey at Saint Anselm from 1998-2002 and was captain during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. "The Colby hockey program has been fortunate to attract quality assistant coaches with professionalism, knowledge and exceptional work ethic," said Colby head coach Jim Tortorella. "I feel confident that Matt will continue to enhance the tradition our former assistants have fostered over the years of excellence in the program." Some of Colby's former assistants include: Albie O'Connell (Niagara University), Brendan Whittet (Brown, Dartmouth), Kenny Rausch (Niagara, UMass-Lowell), Brian Putnam (scout for NHL's Los Angeles Kings), David Berard (Providence, Lake Superior State), Jamie Rice (head coach Babson and assistant with Brown, Dartmouth, Northeastern), Greg Cronin (head coach Northeastern, assistant coach University of Maine, Colorado College, U.S. National Team, New York Islanders) and Jeff Beaney (head coach Southern Maine). phone 207-859-4953
