Colby Women's Hockey Improves to (6-1) with Win Over Connecticut College (1-6)

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College White Mules (6-1) beat Connecticut College (1-6) 4-1 at Alfond Ice Arena in women's hockey action. Colby came out tough and managed to put away a scrappy Connecticut team.

In the first period, it was Connecticut who opened up the scoring first just a 1:51 into the game with a goal by Christina Johnston '02 (Portland, Maine). The goal was assisted by Caley Boyd '03 (New Canaan, Conn.). The Mules came back just a few minutes later with a goal from Heather DeVito '05 (Arlington, Mass.) to even up the score. This would be as close as the Camels would come tonight, as Colby ended up adding another goal just before the period would come to a close. Captain Carrie Swiderski '02 (Watertown, Conn.) and Christina Dotchin '04 (Essex, Vt.) set up Lauren Gremelspacher '03 (Granby, Conn.) to put the Mules up 2-1 heading into the locker room.

Colby came out strong in the beginning of the second period as they quickly tallied a goal in the opening minutes of the period. It was Heather DeVito '05 (Arlington, Mass.) who put her second goal of the night in the back of the net and gave the Mules the 3-1 advantage. Both Caitlin Krause '05 (Keene, N.H.) and Christina Dotchin '04 (Essex, Vt.) picked up their second assist of the night with this goal.

The Mules still had one more goal left in them tonight, as Madeleine Mineau '03 (Terrasse-Vaudrcuil, Que.) netted one to extend the lead to 4-1. Kelley Jessopp '02 (Mettawa, Ill.) and Kristen Putnam '05 (Oakland, Maine) set up Mineau's goal with 11:58 left on the clock. Anna Trafton '02 (Topsham, Maine) had 28 saves tonight for Connecticut College and Lynn Hasday '05 (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) saved 15 shots for Colby. Both these teams square off tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the Alfond Ice Arena.
