GAME RECAP
Colby vs Hamilton College
January 25, 2002
Waterville, ME

Colby College looks strong in a 5-1 win over Hamilton

Waterville, Maine- The Colby College White Mules (10-1-1) came out to play Friday night, as they beat the Hamilton College Continentals (6-10) 5-1. The Mules were able to get out to a lead and hold Hamilton off for the victory.

The Mules came out very aggressive in the first period with goals coming from Meghan Barringer '05 (Leverett, Mass.) and Kelley Jessopp '02 (Mettawa, Ill.). Lauren Gremelspacher '03 (Granby, Conn.) and Kristen Putnam '05 (Oakland, Maine) set up Barringer for her goal, while Mallory Young '05 (Hanover, N.H.) received the assist on Jessopp's goal. Colby piled on the shots, as they recorded 13 shots in the first period alone. The Mules received a penalty with 3:35 left in the period, but Hamilton was unable to capitalize.

The second period started with both teams creating scoring opportunities, but they were unsuccessful in finishing off their chances. Then, at the 10:10 mark of the period, Colby committed another penalty, only this time Hamilton was able to take advantage and cut Colbyıs lead to 2-1. Eden Self '04 (Rochester, N.Y.) scored the goal after being set up by Marissa Halligan '05 (West Haven, Conn.) and Colleen McNally '05 (Bourne, Mass.). Colby came right back just minutes later with a goal from Gremelspacher, as Jennifer Anderson '05 (Rochester, Minn.) picked up the assist. At the end of the second period, the teams headed into the locker with a 3-1 score.

Colby continued to play with high intensity and at the 15:16 mark Jill Young '03 (Edina, Minn.) scored just after a Hamilton penalty was finished being served. Young's goal came via a pretty pass from Kate Sweeney '04 (Milton, Mass.). The Mules kept up the attack when Caitlin Krause '04 (Keene, N.H.) buried one in the back of the net as she was set up by Heather DeVito '05 (Arlington, Mass.) and Kate Sweeney to seal the game. Colby's next game will be tomorrow night against Amherst College.
