Late Goal Propels Colby Over Concordia 2-1

Waterville, Maine- Mallory Young (Hanover, NH) scored the game-winning goal with 3:16 left on the clock, as the Colby College White Mules (12-2-1) topped visiting Concordia College (12-6-1) 2-1 at Alfond Ice Arena. It was a game with a great deal of offensive action, with 80 shots on goal in the game, but stellar goaltending from Lynn Hasday Œ05 (Rockville Center, NY) and Shyla Wilson.

The game started off slow, with neither team able to put up any points in the first period. Colby broke into the scoring column first though when Kate Sweeney Œ04 (Milton, Mass.) sniped a wrist-shot from the left face-off circle 11:19 into the second period for a 1-0 Colby lead. Concordia had some barrages on Hasday later in the period, but the goaltender continued to shine in her debut season, turning away all shots. The Mules almost added to their lead in the third period when Caitlin Krause Œ05 (Keene, NH) blasted a one-timer from Heather DeVito Œ05 (Arlington, Mass.), but Wilson made a great save to preserve the 1-0 margin. Annie Knierim tied the game up 12:20 into the period when she made a pretty cross-over move and beat Hasday five-hole. The Concordia goal set up the stage for Young¹s heroics, as her wrist shot was blocked, flipped straight up in the air, and a flailing Wilson was unable to knock it out of the air as the puck fell into the net for a 2-1 Colby lead. Concordia stayed intense though, and had a flurry of shots at the end when they pulled their goalie. Hasday was up to the task though, turning away at least 3 shots in the last 10 seconds.
