Colby Women's Hockey Stays Perfect, Tops Williams 3-1
Waterville, Maine The Colby College White Mules women's ice hockey team skated over the Williams College Ephs, in a thrilling 3-1 victory.
The # 5 ranked Williams College Ephs, as ranked by the US College Hockey on-line Division III poll, fell victim early as a costly Eph penalty ignited the White Mules power play. Freshman phenom Caitlin Krause (Keene, NH) ricocheted a point shot by junior defense Jill Young (Edina, Minn.) for the go ahead goal late in the first period. The White Mules went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead at the end of one.
Williams College shook off the cob webs from the bus ride and capitalized on an over aggressive play by a Colby College player while penalty killing as sophomore defender, Victoria Scott (Cambridge, Mass.) notched the game equalizer. The rifle of a shot stunned the White Mules and the home town crowd while allowing Williams to get back on track and having the slate clean.
However, the youth and vitality of the White Mule train kept rolling along and at 8:56 left in the second period, freshman Heather DeVito (Arlington, Mass.) slapped home the eventual game winner past the out spread Williams goaltender, senior Anna MacIntosh (Fredericton, NB). Ending the second period, Colby 2, Williams 1.
The third period saw some pretty intense back and forth action with both offenses and defenses coming up extremely huge in scoring chances and defensive saves. However, the White Mules were able to score the back breaker at 13:39 left in the game. Sophomore forward Kate Sweeney (Milton, Mass.) put the puck past MacIntosh to give the White Mules the insurance goal.
The White Mules are back in action tomorrow at 3:00 pm, as they host the Panthers of Middlebury College at Alfond arena, Waterville, Maine. Middlebury just defeated the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, 3-2, in Brunswick, Maine
