The White Mules finished the 1999 season with a successful record of 9-6, and an 18th-place national ranking on the IWLCA/BRINE poll. The high points of the season were a first-ever win against Tufts and a close defeat to Trinity (13-16) in which the Mules came back from a 16-6 deficit to score seven unanswered goals. The team was seeded fourth in the ECAC tournament, and was granted a first-ever home field advantage. Unfortunately, Tufts rallied hard and went on to win, 14-8. Although Colby will lose seven seniors, including two-time All-American Kristina Stahl, an excellent group of underclassmen will return with a strong group of first-year recruits to make 2000 an exciting season. Robin Ackley '00 and Angela Pappas '01 return to lead the squad as captains in 2000. Ackley is a four-year starter who will anchor the defense. She has excellent defensive positioning skills and a great check. She will be called upon to mark out opponent's leading scorers. Pappas, who returns at attack wing, was the team's leading scorer in 1999 with 31 goals and 7 assists. She was honored as a BRINE/IWLCA Second-Team Regional All-American for her efforts. The White Mules will look to Angela and her incredible shot to bolster the team's offense. Mary Zito '02, who was named NESCAC goalie of the week during April of 1999, will continue amazing work in the goal. Incoming first-year Anna Schierberl Scherr '03 should also vie for playing time in the net. Although the White Mules' defense will certainly miss the extraordinary play of two-time All-American and All-New England player Kristina Stahl, the remainder of the defense will return fully intact. Joining Ackley on line defense will be juniors Valerie Cooper '01 and Emily Brooks '01. All three should be quite a force in the backfield, using their strong defensive positioning and checking skills to keep the ball out. Meredith Pfaff '03 and Katie Trainor '03 will also be looked upon to contribute on defense. The midfield, while losing some talented seniors, still looks to be outstanding in 2000. Three-year starter Katie Lee '01 will return as defense wing. Lee's ability to play both offense and defense will be a great asset to the team. Jenn Dolle '00, a four-year veteran at defense wing, will also be looked upon to provide speed and crucial goals in the midfield. Sophomores Lauren Rodier '02 and Whitney Pearce '02 should step up to earn playing time. Amanda Epstein '03, Caroline Riss '03 and Ally King '03 will also assist in pacing the Mules in the midfield. Several experienced players return for the White Mules on attack. Returning as first home is sophomore Marcia Ingraham '02. Ingraham was the team's third leading scorer of 1999. Time and again, Ingraham burns goalies with her blistering shot. Joining Ingraham are Nicki Furek '00 and Robin MacColl '01. Furek is an extremely graceful player who has the ability to switch hands effortlessly and shoot from either side. She will be looked upon to rack up the goals in 1999. MacColl has a powerful shot and is a smart feeder from behind the cage. Shannon Murphy '02 and Ashley Martin '03 will be looked upon to provide further depth on offense. With the combination of returning players and incoming first-years, the White Mules are fired up and ready to go in 2000.
