 Game Recap:

Williams Uses Second Half Surge To Beat Colby 17-12
Colby vs Williams College
March 27, 2002
St. Petersburg, Florida

The Colby College Women's Lacrosse team fell victim to a flat start of the second half and were defeated by the Williams College Ephs 17-12 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Williams came out hot, scoring early and opening up a four goal lead midway through the first half and looking to have control in the early going. As has been the case all season, the Mules seemed to be feeling out their opponents, and closed the half with an offensive flurry. The Mules got three goals from Sarah Burlingham '05 (Radnor, Pa.) as she weaved her way between the Williams defender to bounce three different shots off the ground past the Williams goalkeeper. Kate Wheeler '04 (Baltimore, Md.) also notched two goals before halftime, the first coming on a pretty spin move away from a Williams defender in front of the net and the second coming on a bull rush up the left side. After closing the gap to 9-8, the Mules seemed to be in control, but Williams dominated the second half, notching 8 unanswered goals before Colby made a late run in the closing minutes. The loss was even more frustrating for the Mules as they displayed the talent needed to compete for the NESCAC crown, but were unable to sustain their offensive output for the entire game.
