The Colby College White Mules (1-3) played their best all around game of the season, but were the victims of a slow start that enabled the Amherst College Lord Jeffs to jump out to a four goal lead. Amherst came out strong scoring three goals in the first minute and ten seconds, with Liz Martin scoring twice and Mary Kate Allen also picking up a goal. Laura Schifter then added to the Amherst lead at the 22:22 mark to put the score at 4-0. Kate Wheeler '04 (Baltimore, Maryland) broke into the scoring colum first for Colby with an unassisted goal at 21:34. Martin would answer for Amherst with her third goal 38 seconds later, followed by a goal from Allison Aldrich at 12:53 that put the score at 6-1. Wheeler would pick up her second goal before the end of the half, as well as Marcia Ingraham '02 (Georgetown, Mass.) and Sarah Burlingham (Radnor, Pa.). Amherst would again open the second half with four goals, with the scoring coming from Martin, two goals from Jackie Sargent and one from Erin Beaumont. Colby would then make their run, with their offense clicking for a spurt as they have done in the past few games. Wheeler continued her fine play with three more goals, and Colby also got goals from Cara Dionisi '04 (Sudbury, Mass.) and Kim Jones '05 (Wenham, Mass.). With the score at 11-9 Colby had clawed it's way back into the game, but Amherst got thre insurance goals in the last 4:47 to wrap up a 14-9 victory.
