The Colby ski team, which received varsity status in 1986, won five Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) Division II titles from 1987 to 1992. In 1993 the program moved into EISA Division I and last year it finished 11th in the nation. The Colby alpine team had an amazing season in 2004, qualifying five skiers for the NCAA Division I Championships, with three of them earning All-America status.
Since 1948 when the old Colby ski hill was put to use, Colby skiing has developed into a successful varsity program. The ski program now has two full-time coaches, two assistant coaches, a ski room, 10 kilometers of groomed ski trails on campus, and is fully supported by the Colby Athletic Department.
