GAME RECAP: Men's Soccer Week 8 Colby and Bates tie, 0-0 October 27, 2001 Waterville, ME FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 27, 2001 HOMECOMING WEEKEND ENDS IN SCORELESS TIE WATERVILLE, Maine - A winner could not be decided despite double-overtime in today's intense match between two longtime rivals. Despite an impressive home crowd during Colby College's Homecoming/Family Weekend, the White Mules were unable to slip a goal past Bates College senior goalkeeper Dan Spector (Framingham, MA). However, Colby's solid defense from juniors Mike Jarcho (Hamilton, NY) and Brian Mitchell (Poughkeepsie, NY), sophomore Josh Zweig (Brookline, MA), and freshman Brian Kelly (Milford, MA) held their ground and allowed only nineteen shots. All nine Bobcat shots on net were stopped by senior goalkeeper David Friedman (Avon, CT). Nine of nineteen Bates' shots came from junior bi-coastal duo Josh Myer (Los Angeles, CA) and Michael Masi (York, ME) with five and four shots respectively. Other Bobcat guns included senior Drew Weymouth (Holden, MA), juniors Nick MacInnis (Andover, MA) and Brian Luoma (Virginia Beach, VA), and sophomore Anthony Silva (Salem, MA), with two shots apiece. One-third of Colby's nine shots came from senior Carl Tugberk (N. Potomac, MD), while fellow midfielder freshman Ryan Boccuzzi (Storrs, CT) had two shots. Seniors Jon Ryder (Willington, CT) and David Manning (St. John's, NF, Canada), sophomore Mike Ungerer (Paxton, MA), and freshman Dan Ruiz (Chatham, NJ) each added a shot. This game marked the end of the regular season for both teams, and NESCAC playoffs begin this week.
