The Colby men's soccer team went 5-0 in non-conference play in 2002 and improved to 9-1 in non-league play over the last two years.
The Mules finished the season with a 6-8 overall record while playing in the tough NESCAC. Colby started the season with a 3-0 record including a 1-0 victory over Bates and outscored the competition by a 12-0 margin.
Senior forward Jamie Yurek (Boulder, Colo.) and senior midfielder Jamie Lue (Kingston, Jamaica) tied for the team lead in scoring with four goals and three assists apiece. Lue earned the Mike Loebs MVP Award for Colby for the second time (also named in 2000).
Sophomore midfielder Ryan Boccuzzi (Storrs, Conn.) was sixth in the NESCAC in assists per game. Boccuzzi has been named captain for the 2003 season.
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Danziger (Frederick, Md.) and senior forward Zach Shull (Framingham, Mass.) were both named to the NESCAC All-Academic Team. Shull was fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points, while Danziger had a 1.85 goals-against average and posted two shutouts.
Senior captain Mike Jarcho (Hamilton, N.Y.) had two goals and led Colby's defense from the sweeper position. He earned the Sam Koch Award for spirit and dedication to the Colby men's soccer program.
For the second straight year, Colby earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award. The Mules were the only NESCAC team to receive the award last year and were one of two conference schools to earn the award this year.
