FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 20, 2001
Waterville, ME - In
women's soccer action, Colby College (6-6-1) lost its hopes of making post
season today as the Bowdoin College Polar Bears (10-3-1) defeated the White
Mules 2-1.
Colby College struck first on a goal by senior midfielder,
Lizzy Rice (Norfolk, Va.) at the 25:62 mark of the first half. Bowdoin College answered back late in
the first half on a goal by senior midfielder Alison Lavoie (Nashua, NH). As both teams entered the half, the
score was deadlocked at 1-1.
In the second half, both teams were able to mount offensive
scoring opportunities but could not capitalize on the chances. It was not until the 18:04 mark on the
game clock when Bowdoin sophomore midfielder, Jill Falwell, found the net
putting the eventual game winner past Colby senior goaltender Abby Kussell (Weston,
Mass.). Bowdoin goaltender, Emily
Rizza (Pennington, NJ) had 12 saves in the game and Colby's Kussell made 16 as
she ends her career here at Colby College.
Colby College would like to thank the seniors of the women's
soccer team: midfielder #12 Katie Egan (Westfield, NJ); midfielder #17 Lizzy
Rice (Norfolk, Va.); back #18 Michelle Mancuso (Albuquerque, NM); and
goaltender #00 Abby Kussell (Weston, Mass.) for their hard work, grit,
determination and their leadership in today's game and during the season. We wish them luck in their endeavors here
at Colby as they finish their school year and all of their future endeavors.
