2004 Season Recap
Women's soccer clinched a second straight winning season with a 7-5-2 record.
A 1-0 home win over Williams College was the highlight of the year. Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Riley made 19 saves in earning the shutout. Williams won the NESCAC Tournament and played in the NCAA Tournament.
Sophomore forward Laura Williamson led the team in scoring for the second straight season with 10 goals and one assist for 21 points. She earned NESCAC second team honors for the second straight year. Williamson has 24 goals and eight assists for 56 career points after just two years.
Libba Cox was second on the team in scoring with seven goals and two assists for 16 points.
Kaitlin Herlihy, Kara McCabe and Amanda Walsh all earned NESCAC Fall All-Academic honors.
2004 Season Preview
The Colby women's soccer team had a dramatic improvement in 2003 and has every player on that squad returning in 2004. With a year of maturity in the difficult NESCAC league, Colby is looking at returning to post-season play.
Katie Austgen '05 (Carmel, Ind.), Elizabeth Riley '05 (Saco, Maine), and Amanda Walsh '05 (Salem, Mass.) will lead the team as captains for a second straight season. The tri-captains will get added help from seniors Scarlett Slenker '05 (Great Falls, Va.), Christina Andaya '05 (Old Bridge, N.J.), and Cara Pollard '05 (Bucksport, Maine). The playmaking of Walsh, Slenker, Kaitlin Herlihy '06 (Simsbury, Conn.), Kara McCabe '06 (Watertown, Conn.), Liz Morbeck '07 (Seattle, Wash.), Tammy Lewin '07 (Chappaqua, N.Y.), and Aimee Tetrault '07 (Danvers, Mass.) will provide midfield strength.
Scoring should come from Andaya, Kristin Schmidt '06 (Littleton, Mass.), NESCAC Rookie of the Year Laura Williamson '07 (Manchester, Conn.), Libba Cox '07 (Guilford, Conn.), and Meg Cordner '07 (Katonah, N.Y.).
The Mules will be experienced defensively with Austgen, Pollard, Kelly DeLong '06 (Monson, Mass.), Meridith Blascovich '06 (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Meg Davis '07 (Hopkinton, Mass.), Ali Fulreader '07 (Pittsford, N.Y.), and Jessie Kaplan '07 (Atlanta, Ga.).
Goaltenders Riley and Liza Benson '07 (Orchid, Fla.) will compete again for the starting position and to be the voice and the vision for the group on the field.
