GORHAM, Maine - The visiting Colby College White Mules rolled to an easy 13-2 triumph in the opener and pulled out a 2-1 triumph in the nightcap to sweep the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Towers Field. In the opener, Colby broke open a tight 4-2 contest by scoring four runs in the sixth and adding five in the seventh. Senior Marcy Wagner (Norton, Mass.) led the offensive attack by collecting three hits in four trips to the plate, and driving in four runs. She launched a three-run double in the sixth and added an RBI-single in the seventh.

Freshman Annette Caswell (Bucksport, Maine), surrendered just three hits and struck out three to earn the complete game win, while freshman Kari Vance (Lincoln, Maine), was charged with the loss. In the second game, Colby could produce but seven singles. However, the White Mules opened the third inning with four straight singles to score their two runs. Wagner's single drove in senior Kim Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) to give Colby a 1-0 lead, while freshman Wendy Bonner (Lexington, Mass.) singled to drive in junior Jessica Fitzgerald (Lynn, Mass.) and double the advantage.

Southern Maine pulled to within 2-1, when freshman Kristen Tong (Swanzey, N.H.) led off the fourth with a triple, and came home to score on a sacrifice fly by freshman Emily Forbes (No. Berwick, Maine). That was to be all the offense for the Huskies, as Colby freshman pitcher Toni-Lynn Robbins (Appleton, Maine) scattered three hits and fanned five to earn the complete game win. Freshman Melissa Henderson (Newburyport, Mass), was the hard-luck loser, as she fanned six and yielded just two walks in addition to the seven singles. Southern Maine , which fell to 11-10, returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Bridgewater State, while Colby, which improved to 6-5-1, will travel to the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday.
