Trinity Takes Doubleheader from the Mules
Colby vs Trinity Bantams
April 13, 2002
Hartford, Conn.
Hartford, Conn..- Freshman right-hander Kate Hunter (Ross, Calif.) won both games on the mound, including a three-hit, complete game in the first game, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6/5-5/1 sweep of the visiting Colby College White Mules in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) East softball action this afternoon. Trinity, which snaps a two-game losing skid, improves to 5-17 overall and evens its NESCAC East mark at 3-3. Colby drops to 6-7-1 and 0-2 in the league. Trinity senior outfielder Clare Bullock (Columbia, S.C.) smacked a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning to help the Bantams take a 3-0 lead out of the gate. After Colby took a 5-4 lead with two runs in the third and three in the fifth, the Bantams rallied for runs in the sixth and seventh frames. Trinity took advantage of three walks and a passed ball to push sophomore DH Lauren McDowell (Chilmark, Mass.) across the plate in the sixth, and McDowell singled home freshman catcher Sarah Hoyle (Ansonia, Conn.) to win the game with two outs in Trinity's final at-bat.
In the second game, freshman righty Marion-Anna Protano (Manalapan, N.J.) and Hunter combined to allow just three hits and an unearned run over seven innings on the mound for the Bantams. Trinity junior co-captain shortstop Laura Heath (Windsor, Conn.) had an RBI double in the first inning,
and singled, stole second, and scored a run in the sixth. The Bantams led, 2-1 after five frames, before erupting for three scores in the sixth on a single, a walk, and two Colby errors.
