 Game Recap:

TUFTS TOPS 20 WINS WITH DOUBLE-HEADER SWEEP OF COLBY
Colby vs Tufts Jumbos
April 27, 2002
Waterville, Maine

Waterville, Maine- The Tufts College Jumbos (25-7) extended their winning streak to twelve games with a doubleheader sweep of the Colby College White Mules (12-11-2) 8-1 in the first game and 9-8 in a thriller second game. In the first game the Jumbos were powered by the long ball, getting two homeruns from Courtney Bongiolatti '05 as well as deep balls from Julie Fox '04 and Lis Drake '03.  Jodie Moreau '02 pitched the complete game for Tufts, limiting the Colby offense to one run and five hits in seven innings.  Toni-Lynn Robbins '05 was handed her first loss of the season for the Mules. Colby scored their lone run on a Jessica Fitzgerald '03 fielder's choice. The second game was a heartbreaker for the Mules, as they had one of the premier teams in New England on the ropes, holding the lead with two outs and two strikes in the top of the seventh, but the Jumbos picked up two unearned runs to pull out the 9-8 victory. Tufts opened the scoring with two runs on a double from Deana Davidian '04 in the second inning. After picking up a run in the fourth, the Jumbos put up four in the sixth, via a Drake homerun and Maggie McClory '04 RBI double. The bottom of the sixth inning would be the setting for a Mules offensive explosion, as they picked up eight runs. Things got started on Fitzgerald's RBI double and then a Kate Hurd '05 RBI single. After Carrie Morin '03 walked in a run with the bases loaded, Kate Trasher '04 was called on to pinch hit for the Mules. Trasher energized the Colby fans and dugout when she delivered a grand-slam homerun for the Mules, giving them a 8-7 lead entering the seventh. Things started calmly for the Mules, picking up two easy outs to start the inning. Tufts would get new life though when a Jumbo baserunner reached on a Colby error and would then score on a Bongiolatti double. Bongiolatti would then score the game winning run on a Davidian triple. Caroline Grieco '05 picked up the win for Tufts, while Amy Lisavich '04 took a extremely tough loss for the Mules despite putting them in position for the victory.
