Softball at Colby

The 1999 Colby White Mules softball team completed one of its most successful seasons in recent history, winning 20 games while losing 12. It marked the first time in Colby softball history that the team won 20 or more games in one season. Colby started the '99 season in Fort Myers, Florida, where it played nine games against some very stiff competition. The White Mules came home with a 5-4 record, including wins over Plymouth State, Union and Bowdoin.

Other individual season highlights include a 6-5 win over Williams; a 3-0 no-hit win over Trinity; and back-to-back wins over Wesleyan, 6-3 and 5-2.

The White Mules will sorely miss the services of its 1999 captains, Steph Patterson and Becky Pollard. To help ease the pain, the Mules' two dominant pitchers, Brooke Fitzsimmons '01, who was named the NESCAC and State of Maine Pitcher of the Year in 1999, and Stephanie Greenleaf '01, and four of the team's leading hitters, Kate Magnuson '02, Kate Dalton '02, Kim Chadwick '02 and Marcy Wagner '02, will be returning for action next year. Also returning are captain Lisa Goodman '00 and Lizzie Parks '02 at catcher, captain Katie Mitchell '00, Lindsay Santini '02, and captain Becky Rasmussen '00 in the outfield, and Melanie Morin '01 at first base.

Several newcomers will be vying for spots on the Mules' squad, including infielders Jessica Fitzgerald, Caroline Koskinas, Carrie Morin and Sarah Roberts, outfielders Kristen Heim and Kelani Martin, and pitcher Alexis Grant.
