Women's Swimming and Diving:
For over twenty-five years women's swimming has been one of the most
competitive programs on Mayflower Hill. The White Mules have placed
as high as 10th at the NCAA national championships and have successfully
placed in the top 10 at the New England Swimming and Diving Championships
on numerous occasions. The 1999-2000 season was no different. The
youth based squad broke 9 school marks on its way to a 7-1 dual meet record
and 4th place finish out of 34 teams at the New England Championships where
16 of 18 team members qualified for finals. This is the highest finish
the women's team has had in history of the meet. In addition 9 team members
earned All-New England honors. The team was led in the pool by distance
specialist and national qualifier Mindy Williams '03
(VT), provisional national qualifier and five time school record
holder Jess Knight '02 (CT), backstroker and
four time school record holder Lillie Meyers '03 (PA),
and diver Kat Johnson '00 (HI), who was awarded
the EW Millett Award as the best four year athlete at Colby College.
In the 2000-01 season Williams, Meyers and Knight
will be joined by school record holders Amy Millett '01
(NJ) and Blake Hamill '02 (VA) and a
talent
laden first year class. As a result the White Mules should be a force
at the NESCAC Championships and will look to return to the top 20 in NCAA
rankings.
Men's Swimming and Diving:
The White Mules are steadily developing a tradition of excellence in
the pool. They have been represented at the NCAA Division III Championships
in each of the last four seasons placing as high as 14th in 1998.
In the 1999-200 season the team compiled a 3-5 dual meet record against
several nationally ranked teams, placed 11th out of 24 teams at the New
England Swimming and Diving Championships and finished in the top 40 at
the NCAA Division III Championships. The team set 7 new school records
and was paced by first year standout Jonathan Eck '03
(IL) who earned All-American honors in the 100 breaststroke and
200 IM. Diver Steve Feldman '01 (MA),
backstroker and provisional national qualifier Jeff McCloskey'00
(OH), sprinter Clay Smith '03 (GA),

Eck
earned All-New England honors for their performances at the New England
Championships. With the return of Eck, Smith and Feldman
and the addition of a talented first year class, the 2000-01 season should
prove to be yet another step in the White Mules' climb to the top of New
England and the NESCAC Conference. Other top returnees include breaststroker
Quinn Keating '01 (OR), backstroker Al
Goodman '03 and diver EtanWenger '03
