 2001 Season Outlook

Men's Swimming & Diving

The White Mules are steadily developing a tradition of excellence in the pool. They have been represented at the NCAA Division III Championships in each of the last five seasons, finishing with a 30th ranking in 2001. By all accounts, the 2000-01 season was a success. The team compiled a 5-4 dual meet record against several nationally ranked teams, defeated rivals Bates and Bowdoin for Colby's first CBB title since 1996, broke nine school records and brought home five All-America honors from the NCAA Championships. The team also earned Academic All-America honors for its combined grade point average, while 60 percent of the team members were recognized on Colby's dean's list. Steve Feldman '01 (Mass.) led the team in diving, earning All-America honors on the 3-Meter. Jonathan Eck '03 (Ill.), All-America 100 Breast, and Nick Walendziak '04 (Ga.) All-America 50 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Breast, led the team in the pool. Feldman and Walendziak earned All-NESCAC honors and were joined by Eck, Clay Smith '03 (Ga.), Ben Schreiner '01 (Pa.), Quinn Keating '01 (Ore.), and Al Goodman '03 (Md.) in receiving All-New England recognition. With the return of Eck, Walendziak, Smith, and Goodman and the addition of a talented first year class, the 2001-02 season should prove to be yet another step in the White Mules' climb to the top of NESCAC and the NCAA.

Women's Swimming & Diving
For more than 25 years women's swimming has been one of the most competitive programs on Mayflower Hill and during the past two seasons the team has raised the bar with a .823 winning percentage in dual meet competition. The White Mules annually qualify to compete at the Division III Championships where they have placed as high as 10th. In 2000-01 seven women obtained NCAA qualifying times and two women, Carolyn Plant '04 (400 IM) and Sarah Jasinski '04 (50 Free), competed at the championship. These individual performances capped off a season in which the team broke 18 school records and successfully defended the Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) title. The team also finished an impressive fourth at the NESCAC Championships where Jasinki (N.H.) and Plant (Calif.) were joined by teammates Amy Millett '01 (Va.), Jess Knight '02 (Conn.), Kristan Jiggetts '04 (Ill.), and Laura Collins '03 (Conn.) in achieving All-NESCAC honors. In addition, 14 team members were recognized as All-New England for their performances. The team has also been recognized by the CSCAA as an All-Academic Team and more than 65 percent of the team members have earned Colby's dean's list honors. With the main nucleus of the team returning and a strong first year class, the Mules will look to build upon their tradition of excellence and continue their
