Coach Bio
Julie Wienski
Head Coach
Julie Wienski is in her fourth year at Colby. Prior to joining the Colby faculty, she was assistant professor of physical education and head women's tennis coach at Wellesley. Wienski led her team to NEWMAC Conference and Seven Sisters championship victories and an overall 17-2 record. Before coaching at Wellesley, she was assistant coach for the 1997-98 University of Massachusetts at Amherst Division I men's and women's tennis teams and assistant coach for the 1996-97 Smith tennis and squash programs. Wienski was also an exercise and sport studies instructor and taught tennis, squash, and badminton classes.
Wienski received an M.S. in exercise and sport studies/coaching in 1998 and a B.A. in geology in 1994 from Smith. As an undergraduate she competed as a two-sport varsity athlete in tennis and squash. In tennis she was named to the 1993 NEW Eight All-Conference team, the 1994 Seven Sisters All-Tournament team, and was named a 1994 NCAA Division III National All-American. Wienski achieved a national doubles ranking of eight that year, the second highest doubles ranking in Smith tennis history.
Wienski, from Stamford, Conn., worked as a field geologist specializing in groundwater hydrology for GeoTrans, Inc. (Sterling, Va.) before pursuing her coaching career. |
