2003 Spring Outlook
With the most depth on the team in recent years, the Colby men's tennis team heads into a busy spring season of play with 14 dual matches, the NESCAC Tournament and a possible berth in the NCAA regionals.
The Mules are young with just two seniors and mostly sophomores and first-year players. With six teams ranked ahead of them in the ITA East Region, Colby has a good opportunity to post upsets and move up the rankings.
The Mules enter the spring season ranked 12th in the ITA East Region after playing one dual match and two tournaments in the fall.
Colby's No. 1 doubles team of seniors Rich Cook and John McManigal upset a team from Wesleyan in the ITA Regional Tournament.
Colby competes in the NESCAC (New England Small College Athletic Conference), one of the toughest conferences in the nation for Division III men's tennis. Typically three to four NESCAC schools represent the ITA East Region at the NCAA Team and Individual Championships every year. Other NESCAC members include Amherst, Bates, Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Hamilton, Middlebury, Trinity, Tufts, Wesleyan, and Williams.
