2006 Season Preview
With just one senior lost to graduation, a healthy and motivated squad, and one of the best and biggest recruiting classes that Colby men's tennis has had, the future appears bright for the Mules.
The Mules will be tough this spring with the addition of transfer student Brody Saunders, who could play first or second singles. First-year player Bryan Brown played first singles during the fall and showed promise. Co-captains Ben Crane and Zach Schuman will likely play in the third and fourth singles positions, while Tim Fuhriman and Alex Chin will be forces in single play as well.
Colby's playing schedule is a rigorous one with very competitive tournaments and dual matches in the fall. Spring play will include a trip to Hilton Head, S.c., to play cross-regional opponents, 10 dual matches, the NESCAC conference championship, and the NCAA team and individual tournaments.
2005 Fall Season Recap
First-year player Bryan Brown came close to one of the biggest upsets in Division III this fall. Brown had advanced to the second round of the 'A' singles flight against Bates' Will Boe-Wiegaard, a national finalist in singles last year and one of the top-ranked players in the country. Brown won the first set, but then lost the second set and fell in a pro set 10-6 that decided the match.
Brown also teamed up with Zach Schuman as a solid doubles team.
Ben Crane won the 'B' flight singles title at Bates' Wallach Invitational, while Tom Gildersleeve took the 'D' flight singles title.
