Woman's Tennis at Colby

Women's Tennis is one of the most competitive teams in New England. The team showcases incredible talent, enthusiasm, and commitment-attributes necessary to establish a solid foundation. Fall 1999 highlights include exciting 5-4 victories over Bates and Connecticut College and a top 12 finish at New Englands. Spring 2000 individual highlights include Britt Palmedo '03 as CBB Singles Champion. Britt Palmedo '03 together with partner Erika Goss '02 won the CBB doubles championship as well. The experience and strength of returning players Jenny Grace '03, Erika Goss '02, Caren Harris '03, Hillary Lavely '02, Britt Palmedo '03, Jasmeen Spidle '03, and Lydia Terry '02 together with the talent of the freshman class will create a successful combination for both the fall and spring seasons.

With the addition of USTA junior-ranked recruits joining our experienced returning players, we look forward to a squad of good depth and a very successful season as we embrace the new century. Our playing schedule is a rigorous one, with 8 very competitive dual matches and 2 tournaments in the fall alone. Spring play will include a spring trip, dual matches with Smith, Williams, and Amherst, and the highly prized Maine State Championships in May. Projected team and individual goals will include maintaining personal development/intensity, team cohesion, and improving upon last year's results by finishing within the top 10 in New England. The 2000-2001 season looks bright and exciting.

Colby competes in the NESCAC (New England Small College athletic Conference), one of the toughest conferences in the nation. Other NESCAC members include Amherst, Bates, Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Hamilton, Middlebury, Trinity, Tufts, Wesleyan, and Williams. Over Spring Break the women travel with the men's team and compete in regional and cross-regional competition.
