Colby Humbled by Bowdoin in Women's Tennis, 7-2

The Bowdoin College Polar Bears (3-3) were too strong for the host White Mules of Colby College (4-4) in women's tennis Friday night as the visitors won handily, 7-2.

Bowdoin swept all six matches in singles competition. In number one singles Colby's Britt Palmedo (03, Ketcham, Id) made Bowdoin's Sanida Kikic (04, Dallas, Tx) earn her points by carrying out both sets, 6-4 and 7-5. The Polar Bears' Alexis Banden (04, Fairfield, Ca) made quick work of Colby's number two singles player Erika Goss (02, Stowe, Vt), 6-1, 6-0. Number three singles player Sabina Warren (04, Dover, Ma) was the only Mule to win a game as she and Betsy Hayes (04, Cape Elizabeth, Ma), of Bowdoin, played three sets with Hayes winning the battle, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Bowdoin's number four, five, and six singles players had no problem defeating the White Mules. The polar Bears' number four singles player, Paulette Hricko (04, Dover, Ma), defeated Emily Walker (04, Memphis, Tn), 6-0, 6-2. Chrissy Edwards (02, Cape Elizabeth, Me) defeated Colby's Jasmeen Spidle (03, Lexington, Ma), 6-2, 6-1. Bowdoin's Brooke Jacobsen (02, Marion, Ma) took very little time in finishing the match with Lindsay Tarasuk (03, Middletown, Ct), 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles competition, Colby's number one team was awarded the win after Bowdoin's Banden had to be dismissed after suffering a trauma to the back of the head. The number two doubles team of Palmedo and Spidle defeated the Bowdoin duo of Kikic and Hricko, 8-5. Colby's number three doubles team was not as stellar. Colby teammates Goss and Hillary Lavely (02, Louisville, Ky) dropped their match to Edwards and Jacobsen, 8-3.

The Colby Mules and the Bowdoin Polar Bears travel to Amherst College next Friday, October 20, for the New England Championships.
