Colby Women's Tennis Team Competes at New England Championships

Amherst, Massachusetts

The Colby College women's tennis team competed at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament this last weekend. Colby finished a respectable 12th out of 25 teams with 6.5 points.

The Mules' number four, five, and six players each performed well enough to make the quarterfinals of their respective brackets. Sophomore Jenny Grace (Darien, Ct) defeated Colby-Sawyer's Sarah Reagan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Grace lost her next match to the number four singles runner-up, Iffy Saeed, from Tufts.

In number five singles action, freshman Sabina Warren (Dover, Ma) wasted little time in disposing of Smith College's Elizabeth Maynard, 6-0, 6-3. Warren was then defeated by runner-up Heather Cole of Amherst.

Freshman Emily Walker (Memphis, Tn) needed to battle in three sets before challenger Sarah LaRusso, from Salve Regina, was defeated, 6-2, 0-6, 6-0. Tufts' Rachel Hammerman stopped Walker's run to the semifinals in the next match.

Colby concluded its season with an overall record of 4-4.
