Julie Wienski, Head Coach
Julie Wienski enters her second year as head coach of Colby's men's and women's tennis programs with extensive coaching and playing experience. She previously was assistant professor of physical education and head women's tennis coach at Wellesley College where she led her team to NEWMAC Conference and Seven Sister's Championship victories. In 1998-99 her team compiled a 17-2 overall record. In 1997-98 Wienski was assistant coach for the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Division I men's and women's tennis teams. She also was assistant coach of the 1996-97 Smith College tennis and squash programs and was an instructor in exercise and sport studies. As an instructor at Smith, Wienski taught tennis, squash, and badminton performance classes. Wienski received her M.S. degree in exercise and sport studies/coaching in 1998 and her A.B. in geology in 1994 from Smith College. As an undergraduate she competed as a varsity athlete in tennis and squash. In tennis, she was named to the 1993 NEW 8 All-Conference Team, the 1994 Seven Sisters All-Tournament Team and was a 1994 NCAA Division III National All-American. Wienski achieved a national doubles ranking of 8th that yearthe second highest ranking in Smith history.
Wienski, from Stamford, Conn., worked as a field geologist specializing in groundwater hydrology for GeoTrans, Inc. in Sterling, Va., before pursuing her coaching career.
