Julie Wienski, Head Coach
Julie Wienski enters her third year at Colby. Prior to joining the Colby faculty she was assistant professor of physical education and head women's tennis coach at Wellesley College where she led her team to NEWMAC Conference and Seven Sister's Championship victories, and an overall record of 17-2. Before teaching/coaching at Wellesley, she was the assistant coach for the 1997-98 University of Massachusetts (Amherst) Division I men's and women's tennis teams and assistant coach for the 1996-97 Smith College tennis and squash programs. While at Smith Wienski was also an instructor of exercise/sport studies and taught tennis, squash, and badminton classes.
Wienski received an M.S. degree in exercise and sport studies/coaching (1998) as well as her B.A. in geology (1994) from Smith College. As an undergraduate she competed as a two-sport varsity athlete in tennis and squash. As a tennis player she was named to the 1993 NEW 8 All-Conference Team, the 1994 Seven Sisters All-Tournament Team, and was a 1994 NCAA Division III National All-American. Wienski achieved a national doubles ranking of eight that year‹the second highest doubles ranking in Smith tennis history.
Wienski, from Stamford, Conn., worked as a field geologist specializing in groundwater hydrology for GeoTrans, Inc. (Sterling, Va.) before pursuing her coaching career.
