Michael Morgan
Head Coach
Michael Morgan will leave California and head across the country to Maine to become the Colby College men and women's tennis head coach.
Morgan was previously the men's tennis head coach at Claremont McKenna/Harvey Mudd/Scripps Colleges since 2000. The Stags were ranked ninth in the country last year in NCAA Division III and Morgan was named the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Western Region Coach of the Year.
"Colby is extremely fortunate to have Mike Morgan join the department," said Marcella Zalot, Colby's Athletics Director. "He achieved wonderful success in a small private liberal arts college environment at Claremont, an academic environment very similar to Colby's. I am excited he will be leading our men and women's tennis programs."
The Colby women's tennis team finished 8-7 overall and return first singles player Sara Hughes, an All-American doubles player and the Co-NESCAC Player of the Year last season. The Colby men finished 6-9 with a young team.
"I see tremendous potential here at Colby," Morgan said. "You have probably the most competitive Division III conference in the country for tennis, a beautiful campus, and an established academic reputation."
Morgan led Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to an 8-0 record and the championship in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). Besides the number nine ranking last year, Morgan was instrumental in helping a Stags doubles team win a national title in 2002. The Stags made the NCAA Tournament in all three of Morgan's years at the school.
Morgan was an assistant men's tennis coach at University of Notre Dame from 1997 to 2000 and at the College of William & Mary during the 1996-97 academic year. He was a 2000 ITA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year while at Notre Dame.
Morgan is a 1996 graduate of St. Mary's College (Calif.), an NCAA Division I school. He earned a scholarship by his sophomore year while playing singles and doubles.
Sakhi Khan, Assistant Coach
Sakhi Khan, who has more than 25 years of squash experience, is entering his third season as head coach of the Colby men's and women's squash programs.
Khan has been a four-time All-American varsity squash player and graduated from Tufts University in 1985. As a college player Khan reached the National Collegiate Squash Championships finals and won the Massachusetts State Championship three times.
He also competed on the World Professional Tour for seven years. As a professional Khan won the World Teaching Professional Championships twice. He is a fourth generation member of the Khan Squash Dynasty.
