tennis player 2006 Season Recap

In the 2006 spring season Allison Dunn ’07 went to the NCAA Division III Tournament for singles play for the first time. Previously she earned the right to play at the national tourney in doubles action and earned All-America honors during her sophomore season.

Dunn, with a 68-38 overall record in singles and doubles has an outside chance at 100 career victories. As a sophomore she had a 28-13 record, but went 17-8 this past season after missing the fall season while studying abroad.

Tracy Nale ’07 also returns after playing second singles during the spring season and first singles in the fall while Dunn was studying abroad. Nale led the team in total wins with 21. Anna Erdheim had 17 victories and Lauren Uhlmann finished with 15 wins.

Also returning is Nicole Veilleux ’09, who earned some key victories among her 10 wins at fifth and sixth singles. Veilleux was the only Colby player to go 2-0 for the day in a 5-4 victory over rival Bates. She also had a key singles win in a 5-4 win over NESCAC rival Trinity.

2006 Season Preview

The Colby women's tennis team loses three-time All-American Sara Hughes to graduation, but will return Allison Dunn for the spring season after she studies abroad during the fall of her junior year.

Hughes and Allison Dunn finished third at the National Small College Championships in the fall of 2004. Hughes also won Colby’s Patty Valavanis Award and earned the NESCAC Senior Sportswoman of the Year in women’s tennis. Hughes and Dunn also competed at the NCAA Division III Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich., and each earned All-America honors after finishing the year ranked 10th in doubles.

Two of the year’s team highlights in 2004-05 included two 5-4 victories with junior Anna Erdheim clinching both of the wins in third sets against Trinity and MIT.

Colby’s playing schedule is a rigorous one with four or five dual matches and two tournaments in the fall alone. In the past, spring play has included a spring break cross-regional trip with at least four matches, five dual matches, the NESCAC conference championship, and the NCAA team and individual tournaments.
