Colby track and field athletes receive individual attention. Jim Wescott has coached at the collegiate level for 35 years. He works with five other dedicated coaches to provide every athlete with the direction and technical advice essential for success. Wescott was the assistant coach for three years and the head coach for nine years at North Carolina State University. He arrived on Mayflower Hill in 1978. At both N.C. State and Colby, Wescott has taken great pleasure in seeing his athletes grow intellectually while realizing their athletic potential.

Dan Camann has established himself as a hammer/discus coach of note. Jamie Brewster '00's three national victories in 1997, 1998, and 2000 attest to Camann's love of the events.

Dick Whatley, who coached All-American shot putters and javelin throwers at Ursinus College (Pa.) retired to Maine and joined the staff in 1994.

Debbie Aitken, Colby's head women's coach, coaches the men's and women's horizontal jumpers while Coach Wescott coaches the men's and women's high jumpers. Both Aitken and Wescott coach the middle distance and distance runners on their respective teams.

Bill Lund coaches the men's and women's vaulters. Bill also serves as an assistant football coach at Colby.

Bill Cooper, a 1996 graduate of Heidelberg College in Ohio, joins the Colby coaching staff having assisted with the men's and women's cross country teams at Hartwick College inNew York for the past two years.
