Colby Women's Indoor Track 2004-2005 Season Recap

Junior Jess Minty finished in second place in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She had the best preliminary time in the 800 in a school record 2:13.41. Minty, who earned All-America honors, bettered that in the championship final with a 2:13.38, but fell just short of winning the title.

Minty's best time was 2:13.45 in the 800 before nationals. She also placed a strong fifth in the mile (4:55.46) at the Open New England meet for Division I, II and III athletes. Minty also had success this season in the 400 meters and 1,000 meters, including winning Maine State titles in the two events.

First-year Anna King also made the NCAA meet in the mile with a top time of 5:00.31. She placed ninth in the mile at the Open New England meet and won titles in the 1,500 and 3,000 meter runs at the Maine State meet.

Karina Johnson also won a Maine State title in the 5,000 meters and was ninth in the same event at the Open Nee England meet. Colby also received wins in the Maine State meet from Nora Gouge in the 55-meter dash and Maggie Johnson in the high jump.

Gouge, Karina Johnson, Maggie Johnson and Minty each earned NESCAC Winter All-Academic honors.

Colby Women's Indoor Track 2003-2004 Season Recap

As this publication went to press, the Colby women's indoor track team was sending three athletes to the NCAA Division III Championships. Senior Karima Ummah was going to participate in the high jump and triple jump, senior Caroline Minkoff was a competitor in the weight throw, and sophomore Jess Minty was competing in the 800-meter run.

Ummah, an All-American last year, had another stellar season for the Mules. She was honored twice as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track and Field Athlete Performer of the Week during the season. Ummah won two ECAC titles, one New England Division III title, and captured a record five individual events at the Maine State Championships.

Minkoff was consistent all year in the weight throw and gave the Mules a number of top three finishes against some of the best throwing competition in the country.

Minty shined at the New England Division III Championships, earning second place in the 800 meters in a tight race at the line with a senior from Tufts University. Minty did win the 800 at the Maine State meet.

Minty and Minkoff each earned NESCAC Winter All-Academic honors.
